This job was a Starlink satellite internet installation at a home in Primrose Sands, fitted to the roof right alongside the property’s existing satellite TV dish.
Sharing a roof with a satellite dish
A lot of homes around Primrose Sands already have a dish on the roof for Foxtel or VAST, and the question we get asked most is whether Starlink can go up next to it. Usually it can, but placement matters. A Starlink dish needs a wide, clear view of the sky because it tracks a constantly moving group of low earth orbit satellites, roughly 550km up, rather than pointing at one fixed spot like a TV dish does. Put it too close to the TV dish, a chimney or a tree and you get short dropouts through the day that are hard to pin down later.

What we did
We fitted the Starlink dish on a galvanised pole mount with an angled brace running back across the corrugations, positioned so the existing dish sits low on its field of view. The mount is fixed through the roof sheeting into the structure, and the brace takes the load off the base when the wind comes in off the water, which it regularly does on this stretch of coast. Cabling was run neatly down the roof line and into the house.
Once the dish had locked on, we checked the obstruction readout in the Starlink app and confirmed there were no blocked sections before packing up.
Running both systems from one roof also keeps the cabling simple. The Starlink cable and the satellite TV cable follow separate paths into the house, so if either service ever needs attention, it can be worked on without disturbing the other.
The result
The homeowners now have Starlink and their satellite TV running side by side from the one roof, with neither getting in the way of the other.
