This job was a new VHF digital TV antenna installation at a home in Acton Park, on the semi-rural fringe near Lauderdale and Seven Mile Beach.
Getting the basics right
Acton Park is open, flat country, and a lot of people assume that means TV reception should be easy. Distance and direction still matter. The antenna has to be the right type for the local signal, which in this area is VHF, and it has to be aimed precisely. When an antenna is a few degrees off, or is an older model that was designed for the analogue signal switched off back in 2013, the picture can look fine one day and break up the next.
Rain and wind can make a marginal signal worse, which is often the first sign the setup needs attention.

What we did
We installed a VHF antenna on a short galvanised mast with a heavy duty roof bracket, fixed through the roofing into the structure. In open country like this, extra height wasn’t needed, so we kept the installation low and neat on the roof. The antenna was aligned using a signal meter, checking strength and signal quality on each channel, before it was locked off.
New coaxial cable was run into the house, and all connections were checked and weatherproofed. We then tuned the TV and confirmed every channel was coming in clearly.
Older antennas often look fine from the ground but have corroded connectors or loose elements up close. Replacing the antenna and cable together is usually better value than chasing faults in a system that’s reached the end of its life.
The result
Reliable free-to-air TV on all channels, from a simple, tidy installation that will stand up to the weather.
