This job was a Starlink satellite internet installation at a waterfront home in Southport, right down in Tasmania’s far south.
Internet at the end of the road
Southport is about as far south as you can drive in Australia, and that remoteness is a big part of its appeal. It also means limited internet options. Fixed line services are thin on the ground and mobile coverage can be unreliable, especially indoors. For anyone working from home, running a holiday rental or just wanting to stream without buffering, Starlink is often the most practical option down here.
The challenge is the weather. Homes on the water in the far south take a beating from wind and salt spray, so the mount has to be up to it.

What we did
We fitted the Starlink dish on a cranked galvanised pole mount with a long brace running back across the roof. The offset in the pole lets the dish sit up and over the roof edge for a clear view of the sky, while the brace takes the load and stops the mount flexing in strong gusts off the water. Everything was fixed through the roof sheeting into the framing, and the cable runs neatly along the roof to a sealed entry point.
Once the dish had found its satellites, we checked the obstruction map in the app to make sure the view was clear.
Far south properties are often holiday homes too, and Starlink suits them well because the service can be paused when nobody’s there. The dish stays mounted and ready, and the plan can be switched back on before the next visit.
The result
Fast, reliable internet at one of the most remote addresses in the state, on a mount built to handle the conditions on the water.
