This installation in Risdon Vale combined a VHF digital TV antenna and a Foxtel satellite dish on a single roof mount.
One mount instead of two
When a home needs both free-to-air TV and Foxtel, it’s common to see an antenna on one part of the roof and a dish on another, each with its own bracket and set of roof penetrations. That works, but every penetration is another place for water to find its way in over the years, and two separate installations add clutter to the roofline.
Where the signal allows, combining both on one heavy duty mount is a neater solution. It does need careful setup, because the antenna and dish point in different directions and must not interfere with each other.

What we did
We installed a heavy duty roof mount fixed through the roofing into the framing, carrying the Foxtel dish on one arm and the VHF antenna below it. The dish was aligned to the satellite using a meter and locked off, then the VHF antenna was aimed at the transmitter and checked channel by channel. Both were positioned so neither blocks the other’s signal path.
The cabling for both services was run neatly into the house, with every outdoor connection sealed against the weather. Inside, we confirmed a clear picture on free-to-air and Foxtel.
The result
Free-to-air and Foxtel from one neat, solid installation, with fewer roof penetrations and a tidier roofline.
