This installation covers a UHF digital TV antenna on a tall mast at a hillside home in Dulcot, between Richmond and Cambridge.
Reception among the hills and trees
Dulcot is hilly, bushy country, and homes here often sit in pockets where the main signal doesn’t reach well. Depending on where a property sits, it may be better served by a local translator on UHF rather than the main VHF service. Choosing the right antenna starts with measuring the signal on site, because the right answer can change from one block to the next.
Height also matters. Tall eucalypts close to the house can weaken the signal before it reaches a roof level antenna.

What we did
After testing the signal at the property, we installed a UHF antenna on a tall galvanised mast fixed to the roof, with stays running out to hold it rigid. The extra height lifts the antenna above the surrounding trees for a cleaner path to the transmitter. The antenna was aimed with a signal meter and locked in once we had the strongest and cleanest result across all channels.
The coaxial cable was clipped down the mast and run into the house, with every connection checked and sealed against the weather.
Mounting the antenna higher also reduces interference from the trees themselves. Wet leaves and swaying branches can weaken the signal on stormy days, so lifting the antenna clear of them helps keep the picture stable.
The result
Clear, reliable free-to-air TV for a hillside home, from an antenna matched to the local signal and mounted high enough to rise above the trees.
