This job was a Starlink satellite internet installation at a home in Claremont, using a mast fixed to the wall of the house to lift the dish above the roofline.
Clearing the trees without a tall roof mast
Claremont has plenty of established gums, and on this property they stood close enough to block part of the sky from roof height. A Starlink dish that’s partly blocked will keep losing its connection for short periods through the day, which is exactly what people are trying to get away from when they choose Starlink.
The answer was height. Rather than putting a tall mast through the roof sheeting, we fixed it to the side of the house, which gave a strong mounting point and kept the roof free of extra penetrations.
What we did
We installed a galvanised mast on heavy duty wall brackets fixed into the building’s structure, with a stay running back to the roof to keep the top rigid. The mast carries the dish well above the roofline, giving it a much clearer view over the surrounding trees. The cable runs down the mast inside protective conduit along the wall and into the house through a sealed entry, keeping it tidy and protected from the weather.
Once the dish connected, we checked the obstruction map in the Starlink app to confirm the extra height had cleared the trees.
Fixing the mast to the wall also makes it easier to service later. Everything is accessible from the building, and there are no extra roof penetrations that could start leaking in years to come.
The result
A clear view of the sky, a steady Starlink connection, and a neat installation that keeps the roof sheeting intact.
