This installation covers a Starlink satellite internet system at a home in Carlton Beach, in the south east between Dodges Ferry and Primrose Sands.
Why Starlink is popular in the south east
The beach towns south of Sorell have grown quickly, with plenty of people now living here full time and working from home. Internet that was fine for a holiday shack doesn’t always keep up with video calls, streaming and several devices running at once. Starlink has become a popular choice right through this area because it doesn’t depend on local infrastructure.
Coastal properties here usually have a mix of solar panels, rainwater tanks and coastal trees, so the dish position needs some planning.
What we did
We fitted the dish on a cranked galvanised pole, which lifts it up and away from the roof, with a long brace fixed back across the corrugations for stability in coastal winds. It was positioned on the roof well clear of the solar array, so neither shades or obstructs the other. The base and brace were fixed through the roofing into the framing, and the penetrations were sealed.
The cable was run neatly down the pole and along the roof to the entry point. With the dish connected, we checked the obstruction map in the app and confirmed a clear view of the sky.
Carlton Beach homes are also exposed to salt spray when the wind comes off the water, so all the hardware used is galvanised, and the cable entry and fixings were sealed to keep moisture out.
The result
Fast, reliable Starlink internet for a coastal home, installed neatly and built for the conditions.
