This job was a UHF digital TV antenna installation on a tall mast at a home in Orford, on the East Coast.
Why Orford uses UHF
Unlike most of Southern Tasmania, the Orford area is served largely by UHF, so the antenna needs to be designed for that band. Fitting a VHF antenna, or a generic combination model, is a common reason for missing channels or a picture that breaks up. The town also sits low along the Prosser River with hills around it, which can weaken the signal at roof level.
Getting the right antenna type and enough height usually solves both problems at once.

What we did
After testing the signal at the property, we installed a UHF antenna on a tall galvanised mast fixed to the roof, with a stay running out to keep it rigid. The added height gives the antenna a cleaner line over the surrounding trees and houses. It was aimed with a signal meter, checking strength and quality on each channel, then locked in place.
The coaxial cable was looped and clipped neatly down the mast and run into the house, with all connections checked and sealed against the weather.
Orford also has a mix of permanent homes and holiday houses, and many of the older antennas around town were installed before the digital switchover. Upgrading to the right antenna for today’s signal usually makes an immediate difference.
The result
Clear, reliable free-to-air TV for the household, from an antenna set up for the signal that actually reaches Orford.
