A re-roof that meant starting from scratch
This Clifton Beach property sits high on the hillside above the beach, with a clear run of sky out over the water toward South Arm and Storm Bay. A recent re-roof meant the old TV antenna had to come down anyway, and rather than simply reinstall the same ageing setup, the homeowners decided to sort out their internet at the same time. The NBN Fixed Wireless connection they’d been relying on had never coped well once more than one person was on a video call or the kids were streaming after school, and going up on the roof for the antenna was the obvious moment to fix both problems at once.
Two jobs, one visit
Reinstalling free to air TV and fixing an internet problem don’t usually happen on the same day, but there was no reason to send two different visits out to the same roof. We put in a new VHF/UHF antenna for reliable digital TV reception, and alongside it, a Starlink system to replace the Fixed Wireless connection with something that could actually handle the whole household online at once.

Getting height without the two systems fighting for space
With two separate systems going up on the one roof, positioning mattered. The antenna went up on its own mast near the ridge, angled back toward the Hobart transmitters across the water, while the Starlink dish was mounted on a taller, guyed tripod further along the roofline, clear of the antenna and with an unobstructed view straight up rather than out toward the horizon. Keeping the two apart meant neither system shadows the other, and both can be serviced independently down the track without disturbing the rest of the setup.
The result
A crisp, reliable digital TV picture and a fast, stable internet connection that no longer buckles the moment more than one device is in use, all sorted in a single visit rather than two separate call-outs months apart.
If you’re on the South Arm peninsula
Properties around Clifton Beach, Cremorne, Sandford, South Arm and Opossum Bay often deal with exactly this combination: reception that’s fine once you’re up high enough, and an internet connection that was never quite built for how much a household actually uses these days.
