This installation covers a Starlink satellite internet system at a home in Dodges Ferry, mounted on a short galvanised pole with twin side braces.
Why the mount matters near the coast
Dodges Ferry copes with plenty of wind off Frederick Henry Bay and Storm Bay, and a Starlink dish is a flat panel that catches every gust. The dish also moves on its own to keep tracking satellites, so it needs a base that stays perfectly still. A mount that flexes even slightly can wear the roof fixings loose over time, let water in around the base and knock the dish out of position.
That’s why we don’t rely on a single pole on its own. Spreading the load out to two side braces gives the mount three fixing points on the roof instead of one, which is a much better match for Tasmanian conditions.
What we did
The dish went on a short galvanised pole bolted through the corrugated iron into the roof framing, with two braces fanning out either side and fixed across the corrugations. Keeping the pole short kept the dish low and tidy on the roof while still giving it a clear view of the sky. The cable was tied neatly down the pole and run along the roof to the entry point, with the penetrations sealed.
We then powered it up, let it find its satellites, and checked the app for any obstructions before we left.
We also look at where the cable enters the house on every job. A neat, sealed entry point stops water tracking along the cable into the roof space, which is a common source of slow leaks on rushed installs.
The result
A tidy, secure Starlink setup that sits low on the roof, handles the coastal wind, and gives the household fast, reliable internet.
