Why dish alignment matters
A Foxtel dish points at a satellite sitting in a fixed position roughly 36,000km above the equator. At that distance, being off by a fraction of a degree is enough to cause problems. A dish that’s slightly out might work on a clear day, then lose picture as soon as heavy rain or cloud rolls in. Wind can make it worse over time if the mount isn’t rigid, gradually nudging the dish further off its aim.
That’s why a Foxtel install is more than just bolting a dish to the roof. It needs careful alignment with proper equipment, and a mount that will hold that position for years.
What we did
We installed the dish on a galvanised roof mount with a support leg, fixed through the corrugated iron into the framing so it stays put in the wind. The dish was then aligned using a satellite meter, fine tuning the position until we had the strongest possible signal, before everything was locked off. The cable was run neatly down the mount and into the house, with every outdoor connection sealed.
Inside, we connected the Foxtel box and checked the signal and picture across the channels before we left.
Rural properties around Campania are often exposed to strong winds across the open paddocks, which is another reason the dish needs a rigid mount and a support leg rather than a single light bracket.
