This installation covers an omnidirectional TV antenna fitted to the roof of a campervan in Howrah, getting it ready for life on the road.
TV on the road without the fuss
Older caravan and campervan antennas usually need to be wound up and pointed at a transmitter every time you stop. That’s fine until you’re parked somewhere new at night, in the rain, trying to work out which way to aim it. An omnidirectional antenna receives signal from every direction at once, so there’s nothing to aim. You park, turn the TV on and scan for channels.
For touring Tasmania, where you can pass several transmitters in a single day, that saves a lot of time.

What we did
We fitted the omnidirectional antenna to the campervan roof, positioned clear of the air conditioning unit, roof hatch and solar panel so none of them interfere with reception. The base was fixed and fully sealed, which is essential on a vehicle that will see plenty of rain and road spray. The cable was routed inside to the TV point and connected.
We then tested reception on the spot, scanning for channels to make sure everything was working before the van headed off.
Campervans also have limited roof space, with air conditioners, vents and solar panels competing for room. A low profile omnidirectional antenna fits into the gaps and won’t catch on low branches at campsites.
The result
A neat, low profile antenna that brings in free-to-air TV wherever the van is parked, with no aiming and no climbing on the roof.
