This job was a Starlink satellite internet installation at a two storey home in Port Huon, using a cranked pole mount with a long brace.
Getting a clear view on a two storey roof
On a two storey home, the upper roof is usually the best place for a Starlink dish because it sits above the trees and neighbouring houses. The trade-off is exposure. Higher up means more wind, and in the Huon the weather can turn quickly. The mount has to keep the dish perfectly steady, because even small movements can affect how well it holds a connection to the satellites passing overhead.
It’s also a roof you only want to get on once, so it pays to do it right.

What we did
We installed the dish on a cranked galvanised pole, which lifts it up and out from the base for a clearer view of the sky. A long brace runs down the roof slope and is fixed across the corrugations, taking the load off the base and stopping the pole flexing in strong gusts. The base was fixed through the roofing into the framing, and the roof penetrations were sealed.
The cable was run neatly along the roof and into the house. With the dish connected, we checked the obstruction readout in the app and confirmed a clean view before packing up.
The dark finish on the pole also blends in with the roof colour, which keeps the installation tidy from the street. On a two storey home, where the dish is very visible, that small detail makes a difference.
The result
Fast, reliable Starlink internet on a high, secure mount that will hold steady through Huon Valley weather.
