This installation covers a Starlink satellite internet system at a home in Port Huon, fitted on a tripod style mount on the roof.
Working around solar panels and trees
More and more roofs in the Huon have solar panels, and that changes where a Starlink dish can go. The dish shouldn’t shade the panels, and the panels and their frames shouldn’t sit in the dish’s field of view. Add tall trees on the slope behind a lot of Port Huon homes and the usable part of the roof can shrink quickly.
Finding the spot that keeps both the dish and the solar working at their best is the first job on any install like this.
What we did
We set the dish on a galvanised centre pole with two long braces running out to either side, forming a wide tripod footprint on the roof. That spreads the load across more of the roof and keeps the dish rigid in strong wind, which matters on an exposed hillside above the river. The base and both braces were fixed through the corrugated iron into the framing, well clear of the solar array.
The cable was run neatly down the pole and across the roof to a sealed entry point. Once the dish had connected, we checked the obstruction map in the Starlink app to confirm the trees and panels weren’t blocking any part of its view.
Solar panels can also need cleaning or servicing from time to time. Keeping the Starlink mount clear of the array means anyone working on the panels later can do so without needing to move or disturb the dish.
The result
A stable, tidy Starlink installation that works alongside the solar panels, giving the household fast and reliable internet.
