This installation covers a new VHF digital TV antenna at a home in South Arm, with views over the water towards the Tasman Peninsula.
VHF on the South Arm peninsula
Most homes in South Arm receive free-to-air TV on VHF, the same as most of Southern Tasmania. The peninsula’s position means the signal has to travel over water and around hills to get here, so a well chosen, well aimed antenna makes a noticeable difference. Older antennas that have been knocked around by years of coastal wind are a common cause of channels dropping out in this area.
Salt air is the other enemy. Corroded connectors and cable joints slowly degrade the signal, and the picture gets worse over time without any obvious cause.

What we did
We fitted a new VHF antenna on a heavy duty roof bracket, fixed through the roofing into the structure. The antenna was aligned with a signal meter, checking strength and quality on every channel, then locked in place. The coaxial cable was run into the house, and every outdoor connection was sealed to keep salt and moisture out.
If you’ve noticed channels slowly getting worse over a few months, it’s often a sign of corrosion in the cabling or connectors rather than a problem with the TV itself. A quick check can usually pin it down.
The result
Clear, stable free-to-air TV on every channel, from a new antenna set up properly for the peninsula’s conditions.
